So, if you are new, West Island and Avalon packs would like to say Welcome! Here you will be able to get step-by-step instructions on how to get started here on the island, discover the options you have as a recruit, and get the run-down on the current plots and how you fit into them.
To give you a rundown of what we are all about, this is a literate roleplay group that functions on community and friendship. We have a map called Catalina Island, a part of several island chains (Google: channel islands) in which two permanent wolf packs attempt to coexist: The Tribe of the West, or "West Island Tribe", and the Pack of Avalon Cove or "Avalon Pack".
It is up to you to choose which you would prefer to be in.
Option 1: West Island Tribe Recruiting Closed!
-Lead by Lurai, a very analytical and fair wolfess who generally attempts to keep peace to a logical point and keeps the tribe to uphold the same standpoint. The West Islanders are not above violence.
-A very tropical sort of environment with thick foliage and secluded beaches and a set of falls that lead into the tribe den.
-The West Island's good for trade is the flourite crystal; Their den is a mine of them corroded away by the falls seeping into the cavern. The Avalon's trade with them as light sources, where they grind them and place them over their mushrooms to make them glow nearly perpetually.
-The Den of the WIT is half the size of the Avalon's den, but they have far better fishing areas in their immediate territory.
-The cutoff point for the WIT territory is the Twin Coves.
-Here are some images of the Den:

Option 2: The Avalon Pack
-Lead by Orkan, a witty and wry character who can snap when under pressure, yet be very easy going otherwise.
-Very much a woodland environment, with oaks and firs galore.
-The main trading good of the Avalons is their access to cotton. It is very versatile in its uses and can be used to weave cloth and to fashion mosquito nets.
-The Avalon Den is twice as big as the West Islanders' den, and it is far more protected from invasion due to it's "bullet" shell of stone covering the entrance. It is, however, more prone to flooding because it is below sea level... on an island off of an island. Basically a hole surrounded by water hoping to not be flooded. But no one is likely to invade.
-The fishing isn't as strong in the Avalon Alcove as near the West, and at dusk, the sharks habitually swarm the shallow waters to prey on the last bits of what would have been there.
-The entire hill beside Saki's Tomb and Avalon Alcove smells distinctly sweet, and that's because of the cotton fields having a very warm aroma. Quite pleasant, really, if you like that kind of stuff.

Primary Plot
For two years, the Island of Catalina was wracked with a violent war with Santa Clemente Island, a neighbor of the channel islands. When the Catalinans learned to rely on rowboats instead of their own swimming ability, they were able to bring items with them across the ocean straights and onto other islands where they could trade. The trade boomed, and merchants made regular trips to haul back iron ore and sturdier wood for canoes, among many other conveniences. Tensions began to rise when the leaders on Clemente island enforced a tariff on all incoming and outgoing goods for themselves, and they enforced it with the penalty of death or dismemberment. The final straw had been the attack of an innocent boat headed to Santa Monica by account of the Clementines.
The war wiped out nearly all of Catalina's population, leaving the survivors dwindling. It ended in a draw, leaving a no-trade agreement between the islands for several generations. Many were not only lost to death, but many were displaced and left elsewhere, some never to return and others showing up to find the next generation and even some from their own generation inhabiting the island. Many aren't recognized.
These misplaced Catalina Island Wolves are you, the recruits. You must maneuver your way back into trust and society in order to reclaim your lives here on the island pre-war. With perseverance and trust, things will get better.
Many are noticing, as they return to rejoin their groups, that the lines between the West and East have become far sharper and distinct. Tensions are rising between the two tribes, who had once fought alongside each other. Now that they could no longer trade for other goods, resources have become higher in demand and the divvying of the halves are not always seen as equal.
When Carpe Diem, a large pride of mixed species, came onto the island and asked to stake a claim, Lurai thought it through and obliged, giving Carpe Diem the central slab of island, cutting the island into thirds. She rationed that there was no way that a second war could be survived. The Avalons were furious that she had given in so easily, accusing her of using the new pride as an alliance to bully the Avalons into getting the West Islanders what they want.
Luckily, Carpe Diem is a migrating pride and isn't around most of the time. But the next time they drop in for a visit, anything could spark a wildfire...

:[: To Start :]:
Step 1) Read the rules. They are in this category, under Read First. Seriously, it'll save you and I both tons of heartache.
Step 2)You need to make your character! To make a Catalina Island Wolf (CIW), refer to this thread here: www.feral-heart.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=2&jfile=index.php&topic=22878.0
Don't worry, there's plenty of creative discretion for your characters! If you are recruiting as the offspring of a non-CIW or feline character, don't worry about this and just skip to step 3.
Step 3) Take a screenshot of your character, and resize it to 300x300 (if you can). Then, go down to "The Island" and create a thread under "recruits". There will be a thread stickyed to the top of recruits telling you how to do this, don't worry. You're a recruit!
Step 4) Really, 4 and 3 are interchangeable, but regardless. Download the map. The map download has a password on it, and because you are being good and reading the rules and other fun things, you know that the password is "noclemente". You might get the meaning of that once you read the plots section below.
Step 5) Roleplay, be active, be friendly, and be a contributor to the Island. You will be a member in no time! Recruits don't have the same privileges as members, so believe me that you'd like to be a member (nothing bad... usually!). With effort, you could reach for higher leadership positions as they flux.

Secondary Plots
The Legend of Saki.
Saki was a member of the Avalon Pack before the war began. During this time period, the names Avalon and West Island were inconsequential, and the members of the island moved about freely and interacted openly. She served as a medic during the Clemente War, and quickly worked her way to being the head medic despite being the youngest of them (age 6 1/2, 13 years in human time).[/blockquote]
She returned home to find a home in disarray. Her second cousin was experiencing a PTSD flashback, and chased her through the tangles of the forest. He was killed instantly as his throat clothes-lined on a sturdy vine. The mate to her father's cousin was furious at her, proclaiming she was a murderess and spreading the word to nearly all who would believe her. It was a surprising number, many rationing she had gone crazy seeing all of those fallen. Her second-cousin's mate chased her from the Twin Coves all the way to what is now Saki's Cliff-- Formerly, it was jagged cliff. She was pushed over the edge...
Many mourned her death, namely those who she had saved, including the former chief of the Avalon Pack. A statue was erected in her name, coining Saki's tomb. Her equal fidelity to all of the island was a symbol, now dead, to both the West Island Tribe and the Avalon Pack of the friendship held between the two groups. With her death came the death of unity on the island.
But Saki Didn't die. She washed ashore on a foreign land called Zeitgeist. Saki believes she was kept aloft by a pod of dolphins, but she could never know. She guided them through another war, and was forced to leave after the fall of Radius, their leader. She journeyed and searched with her mate, Krys, to find her home of Catalina.
Saki is a living legend to a few select members of the island, Lurai being a distant relative included. Saki doesn't know it, but she is the peacekeeping hope left, the symbol of unity who didn't die. She sometimes sits beneath the crucifix of her tomb at night, praying for a miracle between the tribes.
Recently.
A curious West Islander decided to go and check out what the Avalons were up to. Brand new prison cells were erected, suspiciously right after Lurai had met with Delay, the leader of Carpe Diem, and allowed them to stake a claim of the island. The curious Westerner reported back to Lurai, who immediately gave the command to build a prisoner cell on the back side of the Meeting Cliff where it couldn't be seen. Avalons caught the gossip (honestly, there are no secrets on the island) and the tensions have grown slightly tighter.[/blockquote]
